Aperture Redesign (research)

This is a European Photography magazine called Foam. It will give you a good opposite in extremes for simular content.

The Cover is basically used twice, the top one with the name and then as you can see in the image below the cover folds out into a 2nd cover which shows the image without any text on it, with an description.

The binding is stitch bound to allow the magazine to fold flat and show full double page spreads.

They use thicker matt paper for some images, this paper texture gives the images a much rougher feeling and they sit off the page really well.

They use gloss for other pages to allow the ink to sit up from the page.

Heres an example of a interview layout, much more mental. Different point sizes used for emphases and it kind of feels more alive on the page.

Heres another binding technique which allows the paper to sit a bit more flat when the book is open.
