Information to add on boxes relevant to Software
From the original panels ben came up with i took some of the information and we both started making icons relevant to each panel. So we started actually setting up some rules to follow, each panel would have a heading, information and an icon all colour coded to the product. This way we had enough information about each product for the user to inform themselves more.
Redesign for packaging.
Take a Step back, Realise its Shit and do something about it.
Yeh we basically looked back at the brief and realised the route we were going down did not fit into all the criteria google wanted which was, Clear, Simple, Clean cut and uncluttered.

I decided to have a go at redesigning all the logos a little bit for each box while sticking to the google colour scheme. I found all these icons from google websites then revectored them to make a much more obvious simple logo for each product we were going to package.

Packaging design idea's
Here are some more quick panel and packaging idea's for potential design for the main box. Inspired by some initial idea's me and ben had and just kind of working away in our own time to see if we could come up with any viable designs.
The idea behind these were to make the boxes feel as digital as possible while still in a physical form so we added drop shadows and Gaussian blur onto them. The type sits up from the box well BUT it still looks really weird like some online app. The design doesn't seem to be fitting well either and if i had to apply this across a box it would look incredibly cluttered. The drop shadow boxes kind of make the space feel smaller then it is already and with the panels measuring 6x6cm i had to try and visually create more space then what there really was.
Top of the Four boxes. Here you can see where out concept was going for when all four boxes came together you would see the google logo on them all.
This kind of looks alright with the text sitting on the colour with more drop shadow. But it doesn't fit any form of grid or rules so all my content would just randomly be placed around my box making it cluttered and confusing.
Top of box idea's
These are some panel designs ben did which i added a few things to.
I took bens idea and then just had a quick look if i could simplify his information down a bit to make the panels look less cluttered.

Packaging Mock ups
This was the first quick full mock up which was using the google 'G' as the main design template. This was mainly done to see how the design would sit across all the panels of the box. The idea which we came up for was to put the flat Google Logo across the top of all 4 boxes and the on each of the individual boxes 'fold' the design around the panels. So if all 4 boxes came together you would see the over all logo appear on the top and around each of the boxes.
Not sure if i like the Google design on the card the colours are too bright especially for the edges of the box kind of feels like it doesn't work together very well.
QR Code sits well against the Foam. Contrasts well.
20% opacity is way too low maybe like a 40%er or somehting.
Type does not really balance well on the design, the opacity is too low and makes it even less readable.
Overall i do not like the design weve used here, mainly because the person picking up the box would not clock on that its the google logo 'folded' around the panels and without that concept it just looks like silly shapes plastered thoughtlessly on a box with type kind of sitting on it.
Obviously this is a crap paper stock mock up but kind of gives me an idea of what to expect.

Packaging
Right... The packing model is sorted but trying to find some way of designing it with the million gazillion limitations set by google. Limitations aren't a bad thing but when your limited to using things which dont work together properly and type which only works in a body of text its rather annoying...
Also designing to a sqaure format is slightly limiting so it would be an idea to extend the bottom of the packaging box to stick out more making it more of a rectangle.
