25 Frames at significant intervals

This is screen grabs from "The Dark Knight - Kinetic Typography" video on youtube. I took screenshots at the significantly important parts of the video to try and show the changes in motion of the type. The video is a really good simple example.

Then angles to start the new scene

The out of focus line helps illustrate the "gasoline" being far away.

Builds the shape.

Then the shape is enlarged and angled to set the next frame up in the centre using white text again.

Again the text is enlarged grey'd out and pulled towards the screen to make it feel like its coming towards you.

Angling type at right angles gives a 3 Dimensional feel the it.

Greying out and lowing the opacity of the unimportant type to show the 3D shape in the background.

Giving the idea its coming from infront of the screen again with grey'd out type giving the feeling of a 3D shape

Work Shop Task 2

Firstly We need to go over our current 3 sheets of 5x5 frames and improve them and add to them after the power point presentation and apply what we've learned after seeing what everyone else has done as well.

1. Produce 5 Possible sequences for each word, 5x5 frame sequences. 
2. Use the entire word
3. Use 3 pens & 1 colour
4. Set of 25 mini screen Grabs from a kentic type Video on youtube. (Focus on frames which show significant change in the sequence) 

Studio Workshop

In today's Studio workshop, we learned about how to start story boarding, we got set the task to produce some initial quick boards 5 for each word, one frame had to represent a series or the end of a series.

After lunch we got set the task of producing 5 x 5 frame series. Each Sheet represents a set of ristrictions to work worth to teach us different techniques for simple animation

In this exercise we had to change the form, dimension and scale.

This made it incredibly hard for me as i had the word drop using the letter D, looking back on this exercise i would of been much better off using the word disperse, as the word drop steers toward changing the position of the letter, instead of started thinking in 3D and the letter characteristics more to try and overcome my problem. My 3D drawing skills are fairly weak and it made my head hurt a bit but im definitely getting the hang of it.

This exercise focused on changing Lateral or vertical positioning and changing the possition, the form and scale was fixed and not allowed to be changed.

Yet again i went with the word drop as it was the most appropriate for this exercise 

The focus on this exercise was focusing on Dimension and Space, Left to right and Top to bottom.

This exercise found drop most appropriate as well, trying to work with dimensions on a flat piece of paper took a bit of imagination but im looking forward to getting some more software skills on After Effects as my drawings by hand are a bit basic but at least i know what i am trying to represent.

Studio Workshop

We got set the task after the initial workshop to pick 2 words out the randomiser and then from those two words find:

• 20 words which relate to the word
• 20 meanings of the word
• 20 objects relating to the word (in the form of a picture)
• 20 situations you can find that word in
• 20 appropriate typefaces

We had to collect this information on each work ready for the workshop on Thursday.

Design For Screen Brief

STUDIO BRIEF 1 - SILENT MOVIE

BRIEF

Select a word from the randomiser. Produce a minimum of 5 x  five second animated sequence that explore the visual communication of this word through the use of letterform only.

Background / Considerations

Software will not save a bad idea. An application of fundamental design principles, appropriate research and development methods and the ability to evaluate the communication of ideas are what you need. Designing for Digital Media is all about organisation. Once you have worked out what you want to do there is a range of systematic approaches that can be used to develop your ideas. Working to restrictions is essential. You will become aware of what you can and can’t do with the time and technology available. Live with it and learn to think creatively around the problems that you encounter. Time is precious how do you use it effectively, efficiently and creatively to communicate your ideas. Start with a thousand possibilities and go from there. How does the frame/format inform your investigation. What pace do you associate with your chosen words? What fonts/typefaces/ letterforms are the most appropriate for your words? Keep it simple. Technology creates as many problems as it solves work out what you need to do before you go anywhere near a computer.

Mandatory Requirements

The word that you have chosen (or the letters included in those words) must be used in each of your resolution.

Your resolution must be produced using Adobe After Effects and be delivered as a QuickTime Movie.

You should work to an aspect ratio of 16:9

You can only use BLACK, WHITE + ONE OTHER  COLOUR in each resolution.

Deliverables

5 x 5 second animated sequences

5  x 15 frame post production storyboards

Test pieces/sequencies, design sheets and test storyboards appropriate to your resolution.
