Logo for the 60th special edition of aperture. The idea behind this typeface is to use it as a heading font where I can actually put it over an image and allow it to fill the typeface, for that I need a big chunky typeface, not ideal for body copy but great for display and heading. I based the typeface on garamond which has been set as my body typeface but looking at it now I realise that this wasn't the best idea to be honest... Garamond is curvy, loads of imperfections and just not ideal for such a structural typeface. My 2nd mistake for this typeface is some letters like the P & R's main counters are what signify's the letter but with my current set of rules they appear as absence of space making it incredibly illegible. On the plus side the A looks really nice on its own and performs pretty well at holding an image through it. More work is needed and a fresh approach to a new typeface as a model.
